UNGLAMOROUS MESSIAH, UNGLAMOROUS GOSPEL

Would you follow him?

Everyone wants to follow the ‘glamorous’ Messiah not found in the pages of the Bible.

We think of him, mainly due to how Hollywood portrays him, as a beautiful, tanned, blue-eyed, thirty something Messiah, who is received by all. Ever smiling, always upbeat and abundant in mercies and forgiveness, you would cross the street just to greet him.

Each Sunday, churches across the land give praises to this ‘glamorous’ Messiah; his name projected high up on screens, with hands held high we give him worship. Some are moved by joy and others to tears at the mere mention of his name. He incites such religious fervour wherever he goes.

This ‘glamorous’ Messiah is never short of friends. He’s the centre of attention and everyone wants to be around him. When he jokes, they all laugh. He sets the trends everyone else follows. Ever popular, always liked and never ever despised and rejected, he has friends on Facebook in the droves.

IMPORTANT THEOLOGICAL QUESTIONS: WHY GOD
STAYS HIDDEN

The question that has perplexed theologians, philosophers, academics, and thinking people alike for centuries is – “If God exists, then why doesn’t He/She/It reveal Him/Her/Itself?” A very valid question it is too.

Even the cleverest mind to have lived Einstein himself was convinced a “god” created the universe. Although, he believed in a deistic, non-personal one – it is still a god!1 This led to his famous oft quoted quote, when considering the complexity of the universe and everything, “God doesn’t play dice.” Furthermore, this prompts the question: Why would any god create a whole universe, only to not reveal Him/Her/Itself? Moreover, might history bear record to a god who at any time attempted to make contact with us?

Legs of Iron, Feet of Clay

"Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces" (Dan 2:34)

"And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder". (Mat 21:44)

In life as in the Bible, there are sure probabilities and doubtful certainties, hard truths and reassuring lies.

When king Zedekiah and all the people were warned by God through Jeremiah as to the imminent threat of the king of Babylon, they refused to listen to him until it was too late. We read of the account in Jeremiah:

"Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him. And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth. Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words". (Jer 36:22-24)

But, regretfully, afterwards he was made to witness with his own eyes its dreadful outcome. (See Jer 52)

The Mark of the Slave

"And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil" (Gen 2:9)

In inquiring into one of the Bible's darkest secrets — "the mark of the beast" — the question that needs to be posited is whether this could be an actual mark — or a symbolic "mark".

Let us again consider what the Bible says:

"He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666". (Rev 13:16-18; NKJV)

The Nature of the Beast

It has often been said man is created in the image of God.

Yet this is not entirely true.

Though he may have been made in His image, however they were unmade in His image once again when they rebelled against Him in the garden.

We read in Genesis:

"Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons". (Gen 3:1-7)

5 Convincing Reasons Christians Should NOT Celebrate Christmas

The nativity scene

It has been the firm conviction of many a Christian, myself included, that, along with the other vain traditions they hold to, such as trying to keep the ten commandments, observing the Sabbath day, and belonging to, and regularly attending, a church building, Christmas time, the so-say celebration of Christ’s birth, is an act of veneration to be adhered to. Here I provide five valid reasons why this is not the case at all and Christians have been duped

#1: 364 days a year all they do is constantly blaspheme, curse and ridicule the name of Jesus Christ — yet for one day they want to celebrate him!

It has never ceased to amaze me how that even the most ardent and fiercest opponents of Christianity — atheists, secularists and unbelievers in general — rather than to unify efforts and take a stand for what they supposedly believe, instead hypocritically hang up their grievances for one day, stepping in line with the rest in so-say honouring the birth of the Christ-child. The hypocrisy of it!* And though every effort has been made to conceal the true meaning of Christmas, by trying to remove all reference to Jesus Christ — and even going so far as to forbid the use of nativity plays by children in schools. However, there is no denial that just by the very name — Christ-mass — there is a wilful adherence on the part of those partaking in it, believer or non-believer, as to its true Christian essence. By the very omission of the word “Christ” from Christmas, replacing it with an “X” (X-mas), this can only be taken as a serious affront to any Christian to rid Jesus Christ not only from his special day but from the world. If this does not prove what an entirely sinister pagan, indeed antichrist, celebration Christmas truly is, nothing can. It should be opposed by any radical follower of Jesus Christ.

* It is no different than Christians celebrating, say, the birth of Charles Darwin — or Nero! Just think of the absurdity, there would be an outcry if this happened — how is it any different then?

Through the Fiery Furnace of Affliction

"Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you" (1 Pet 4:12)

An age old biblical story with a very apt message for our time

By Martin Nicodemus

Wherever you look in church circles today are visible two distinct, yet very opposing brands of Christian:

The one who each Sunday heads to church service to offer up lip-service praises to God, where they eagerly await the next worldly entertainment worship act to lift up their unholy hands to, and drop their guilt-money tithes into the bribery offering plate. Whoever said church was boring, and not fun, and no longer relevant, apparently, had it all wrong.

How the devil must be gloating now.

On the opposing side of the fence, the other who awakens to yet another day of storm-tossing, difficult hardship, toil, opposition, persecution, pain, privation, where they are hated and rejected by this world, even by other believers so-called, as well as their friends and family members also. But, praise be to God, they remain obedient to Him, even to death.

How Satan must be totally seething now.

“Come Out of Her, My People!”
2: Bloodguiltiness

"The violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon, shall the inhabitant of Zion say; and my blood upon the inhabitants of Chaldea, shall Jerusalem say" (Jer 51:35)

A biblical definitive view of Babylon the Great's identity then but especially her true understanding now

By Martin Nicodemus

Babylon is no recent entity; she existed from the beginning of time.

What else would Jesus have meant when he accused those of his time, "That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation; from the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation". (Luk 11:50-51) Clearly, he was not levelling the charge solely at them. We first need to understand what the Bible says of the first act of murder ever perpetrated by man — and the real cause behind it.

In Genesis, we read the following account:

And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: but unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him. And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him. (Gen 4:3-8)

To Jerusalem

"And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there: save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me" (Act 20:22-23)

There comes a time in every believer's walk with Christ that they near the end of their long and arduous journey.

Believe me, that is when the devil will come at you most, mainly through the agency of other people, with the same old lying words and excuses, which often goes as follows: "You don't need to take the difficult route, make it easy on yourself", "You should relax and have more fun, take time out and enjoy yourself", "You get only one life — you must live it well", and so on and so forth. Should his ruse be successful, the final outcome could mean venturing off the right path God has ordained for you, and onto the wrong path.

“Come Out of Her, My People!”
1: Identity

"Though Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should fortify the height of her strength, yet from me shall spoilers come unto her, saith the LORD"
(Jer 51:53)

A biblical definitive view of Babylon the Great's identity then but especially her true understanding now

By Martin Nicodemus

The year was 1997. I had been studying Scripture, the book of Revelation especially, intently up till that time six whole years, ever since becoming a Christian. I still had many reservations concerning this mysterious yet enigmatic Book. But one trumped them all — the true meaning of Babylon the Great.

What I found truly astounded me.

I had come across many a prevailing interpretation as to her 'real' identity, everything from post modern-day Iraq, formerly Babylon, New York City, the financial capital of the world, to Vatican City Rome, the city built upon seven hills. Still I was largely unconvinced by all of them. I reasoned within myself, unless I happened upon one which filled all the gaps in interpretation — or, better still, it was revealed to me by personal revelation via the Spirit — my options I would keep open.

It was around this time I felt very strongly the Holy Spirit commune with my spirit. This is what I was led to find out.
